M27 (Apple Core Nebula, Diabolo Nebula, NGC 6853) in the constellation Vulpecula is about 1350 light years (ly) from Earth. It was the first planetary nebula discovered (by Charles Messier in 1764).

M27 is a slightly oblong (prolate) spheroid (dumbbell-shaped) and is known for its bright and dark knots with dark tails, which are also common to many other planetary nebulae. Some of these knots resemble fingers pointing toward its very hot, white dwarf star seen at the center of the nebula.

I would have loved to get some more time on this, but clouds arrived (unforecast, of course) three hours early. 🤬
