MWP1 is a planetary nebula (PN) is about 4,500 light years (ly) away from Earth and found in the constellation Cygnus the Swan.

The Methuselah Nebula is a very old PN (about 150,000 years old) with a usually symmetrical, bilobed shape and is also unusually large for a PN – about 15-17 ly across. For comparison, most PN have a diameter of around 1 ly or slightly larger, and have a lifespan of about 10,000 to 20,000 years.

MWP1’s central star is one of the hottest known and produces large amounts of x-ray bursts.

At the lower right (and somewhat cut off) is a second PN, Alv1(PN G79.8-10.2), that was discovered by Portuguese amateur astronomer Filipe Alves in 2009.

Capture Dates: 10/28, 11/7, 11/9, 11/12, 11/13, 11/15, and 11/16/2024.
